Having exhausted every avenue open to her in her quest to save her mother's life, Cara resorts to the unorthodox. She never really believed in the occult, however, and therein lies her problem. 
 
It was desperation that led Cara to attempt to summon a demon and try to strike a bargain with him, but the arrogant, domineering Incubus, Baelin, refused to be controlled by a weak mortal. Even when he had enthralled her, bound her with his magic, however, she struggled to exert her own will, refused to submit to his domination.
