A Niahain warrior on vision quest, Kiran must remain pure in mind, body, and spirit to save his world.  The orphaned star child, Tempest, challenges all of his beliefs and his self-control.
 
It is against Niahain beliefs to abandon a helpless one, and yet from the moment Kiran catches the little beast that attacked him with rocks and discovers it's a female, his imagination goes wild and will not give him peace. He cannot in conscience leave her, but he fears he will not be as chaste as he must be to save his world if he takes her.
 
Tempest is terrified of the Niahain warrior--at first, but no sooner does he tell her he will come back for her than she decides to go with him--no matter how hard he tries to scrape her loose.
