Ariana had no clue her birthright could be her death warrant until Bastien, the dragon, showed up to eat her--well slay her per the evil sorcerer's orders.  Fortunately, the evil sorcerer was the hated enemy of Drakken, a dragon shifter, and he was all too happy to compete with Bastien for Ariana's affections and help her to slay Voltaire.
