Remember, our submission guidelines have been updated! We are ALWAYS accepting submissions.

Welcome to the NCP Family!

We would like to take this moment to welcome you to the NCP family! The editors at New Concepts Publishing pride themselves on accepting only the creme de la creme of all submissions. All of our books are important to us, and we feel of exceptional quality...our authors amongst the most talented and imaginative in the publishing world.

The editor you contracted with will be your first, and main, point of contact. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your editor via the email address she supplies you with. Anything pertaining to the webpage, including questions and information for your individual author and book page, should be directed to the webmistress.

SCHEDULING

Upon our receipt of your contract, your book is then scheduled for release by your editor. Each editor's workload varies, so some authors may contract and have their book come out in five months, some authors may have their book come out in a year, etc.--this is entirely dependent on your editor, though we do like to have books come out the first year of contracting.

The next step is assigning an ISBN, and you may need to email your editor for your isbn.

Schedules remain tentative and flexible for author or editor delays and are usually confirmed as concrete around a month before release.

EDITS and COVER ART

We try to start editing early on every book, though again, this is dependent on your editor. Typically, edits are light and go out around a month before release. Occasionally, to conserve time, some editors may elect to correct grammatical errors themselves to expedite release.

If a book needs rewrites, we try to allow an author plenty of time to complete this before going on to the line edits.

At around the same time your book is going through edits, an artist is assigned to create your cover and may or may not use your cover suggestions. Please be sure to include your art suggestions and samples when you return your contract.

All of our artists work hard to create aesthetically pleasing cover art. Upon approval of the cover by the head of the art staff, you should then receive a copy of the cover via email for promotional purposes or notification of its placement on the sneak peek page.

After you have received your edits, you should go over them carefully and make all changes stipulated by your editor. You will have a limit of 90 days to complete your edits and return them to NCP.

We are working on catching up (always!) but hope to eventually get all edits out at least three months in advance. We are also looking to release books both at the first of the month and mid-month for increased exposure to readers.

AUTHOR DISCOUNTS

As an author, you will receive a 50% discount when you purchase copies of your book. This is detailed in your contract.

Customer, bookstore, and distributor orders are given priority over author orders at this time. If you need books for a specific event, please order early and notify the order department of your needs and time line. It is usually best to schedule signings and such after you've received a stock of books.

PRINT BOOKS

Original ebook releases usually come out in print around one year after publication, however, this will depend on your editor's workload for scheduling.

Galleys will be emailed or printed and snail mailed for error checking. When you receive your galley, usually 1-2 months in advance, it is best to read over the book or get a friend to help catch errors. This is not the time for any rewrites, nor can the book be changed drastically, such as enlarging the font. The process for setting up books for print is a long, laborious one and requests for unnecessary changes are not appreciated.

REVIEWS and MARKETING

This is one of the most important aspects of being an author that is often overlooked. Reviews can be some of the best free advertising you can get for your book. Check with your editor before submitting ARCs (Advanced Reading Copies) to make sure there are no major rewrites, which can affect reviewer recommendations.

Once you get the okay, try to get your books reviewed as often as possible, as well as taking advantage of a site's interview possibilities.

Joining the NCP Author Loop can also be a good place to start to get pointers on starting your own promotional campaign.

From time to time, NCP arranges group author ads for print media such as Romantic Times. A group ad should have around six participants. If anyone is interested, please contact us.

FUTURE SUBMISSIONS

Your future submissions to NCP are always welcome, even if you are an eclectic writer and enjoy writing in a variety of genres. New submissions and queries should be directed to your editor, and the editor should be contacted to find out if she is interested in your newest work.

It doesn't need to be said that frequent releases help build your name recognition, and we are very interested in developing each author a following of readers, however, this can only be achieved with consistent, fresh work. It's extremely difficult, though not impossible, to build a following with only one or two new books a year...but four or more releases can go a long way in this business. Think of your favorite authors...do you really want to wait a year before reading their next book? Readers are impatient and apt to forget even really good books without constant reminders.

Anthology work is usually compiled by a single editor. If you are interested in submitting stories for a particular anthology, contact the editor of that anthology (Even if the editor is not your usual NCP editor).

If you need any help, ask us or try asking one of your fellow NCP authors. Many of them are veterans of the publishing industry and don't mind helping and sharing their wealth of knowledge.
