This is a work of fiction. All characters, events, and places are of the author's imagination and not to be confused with fact. Any resemblance to living persons or events is merely coincidence.

The glint of sun on metal had Sam's head turning a fraction of the way around. It was hard to tell who was more startled Sam or the Bayger he came eye to shoulder with, though it was hard to read any specific emotion across the black fur covered snout gapping open that was staring down at him.

Never one to be found unprepared, Ginger swiveled her laser rifle into position and instantly went into rapid-fire mode. Each shot sparked and ricocheted off the Baygers' metal parts, only seeming to infuriate it.

Its huge marble like eyes widened, just before it let out a monstrous roar. Sam having learned from Ginger's fire redirection, aimed directly for the werewolf parts of the hybrid monster. Though its left shoulder was metal, its right was midnight black fur covered flesh.

The first rapid fire blast caught its right shoulder, sending it into a chorus of whimpering protests. The next second the Bayger let out an earsplitting howl, one Sam realized must be an alarm call.

Within seconds, they could hear the pounding as heavy metal rushed toward them. Together they took out the first four advancing Baygers. The noise they made must have alerted the inhabitants of the neighboring buildings, because with in moments they were surrounded on all sides by the enemy.

Ginger dropped her laser rifle and went into physical battle attacking with General precisian and Zogone military strategies. Her hair started sparking as it turned a shocking bright white. Her eyes hazed over until they looked completely pupil-less .

This was in no way a new sight for Sam. Once before he had seen Ginger use her powers and change like this. But that time it had been him on the receiving end of her alien powers. Ginger had been testing him, to make sure he was strong enough to be a member of their team on such a dangerous mission. A test he had passed and actually won by taking Ginger down, human style.

As the group of Baygers advanced on them, Ginger started throwing fire based energy balls at the closest of them. Sam threw a few grenades up the alleyway taking out a number of advancing enemies, while more surged around the fallen.

Taking advantage of the chaos Sam tapped his right shoulder activating his invisibility booster and instantly vanished from view. With a quick maneuver, he dropped to the ground, rolled over twice, then pulled himself to his feet on the outside of the circle.

By ducking and rolling from place to place, he was able to use his laser rifle to take out a good dozen enemies. He would roll shot, roll again and use a leg sweep to take down another, then roll again to shot the newly fallen and whoever might be standing in the same vicinity.

Over the noise of battle he heard Ginger yell, "Sam stay down."

Glancing in her direction, he saw her levitate up into the air, while the freckles on her face turned pitch black, then he heard her mumble. "Uivxpovh zggzxp." It was her own specialty she had invented as a child, called Freckle Attack. It was also what Ginger had just mumbled in the Zogone language.

The freckles across Ginger's face literally jumped off her face turned into laser like points of light and shot out in front of her her blasting another whole group of Baygers. An instant later Sam was on his feet again blasting away at the remaining Baygers coming through the open door at Ginger's back.

For a while Sam kept shooting, while at the same time Ginger kept throwing fireballs in what looked like an extreme game of bowling. Her fireballs knocking Baygers over one on top of the other like bowling pins collapsing in on their triangle.

There were just to many of them. Ginger was managing to avert most of the enemy fire. One daring Bayger scuttled under her and grabbed her by the ankles, yanking her back down to the ground.

Sam forgot to roll after his last shot, yelling out to Ginger and leaving himself wide open. A large metal claw came down viciously onto his right shoulder shattering his invisibility booster and brought him back into plain view.

Sam was instantly surrounded and held back by six huge Baygers, while Ginger was forced kicking and screaming to the ground by another battalion of absolutely furiously, riled monsters. The Baygers growled and woofed at each other, whilst holding Ginger down until she couldn't breathe.
